Constitution Day: Statue of Dr. Ambedkar installed in Supreme Court premises, President Draupadi Murmu paid tribute

The statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was unveiled in the Supreme Court complex in Delhi on Constitution Day. President Draupadi Murmu and Chief Justice DY Chandrachud paid tribute on the occasion.

President Draupadi Murmu unveiled Ambedkar’s statue at the Supreme Court premises on Constitution Day. The statue is more than seven feet tall. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal offered floral tributes to the statue.

Several judges of the Supreme Court also attended the function. Ambedkar’s statue is made in the form of a lawyer holding a copy of the constitution.

The decision to erect the statue in the Supreme Court premises was made following the persistent request of a group of advocates who follow Ambedkar’s ideals. Last year, they had written to the Chief Justice requesting the installation of the statue by December.

November 26 is observed as Constitution Day since 2015 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. Earlier this day was observed as Law Day.
