Lee was found dead in a car in a central Seoul park on Wednesday, Lee had been under investigation over allegations that he had used illegal drugs.

Lee Sun-kyun Born in Seoul in 1975, Lee studied drama at the Korea National University of Arts. He made his television breakthrough in the medical drama White Tower (2007) and was positively received in the youthful drama Coffee Prince (2007).

Lee Sun-kyun, the South Korean actor who starred in Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning film Parasite and the Apple TV+ series Dr. Brain, has died in an apparent suicide. He was 48.

Lee’s agency, HODU&U Entertainment, said: “There is no way to contain the sorrow and despair. We respectfully ask that you refrain from spreading false facts based on speculation… so that (Lee’s) final journey will not be unfair.”

Lee had been under investigation over allegations that he had used illegal drugs. Yonhap reports that Lee had been questioned three times by police, including for 19 hours over the weekend over his use of marijuana and psychoactive drugs. Lee is reported to have visited Seoul’s Gangnam district on multiple occasions since early this year, including last Saturday, where he allegedly took drugs.

According to Yonhap, Lee tested negative in two drug tests, one was a quick reagent test by the police and another a lab-based test by the National Forensic Service. However, the hostess who accused Lee maintained her claims. So, Lee requested the police to conduct a polygraph test to find out who is lying. Lee’s lawyer told Yonhap, “The National Forensic Service’s drug test should have been positive if she was telling the truth, but it was negative. Lee is in a very unjust situation, so a lie detector test should be done on both of them to scientifically confirm who is lying and who is not.”

As Guardian reported Lee Sun-kyun drug investigation Incheon police station. He said, “I sincerely apologise for causing great disappointment to many people by being involved in such an unpleasant incident. I feel sorry for my family, which is enduring such difficult pain at this moment.”
